T-Rex Laptop Quick Start Guide
Sign-In Procedure
When to Expect Credentials
T-Rex Account Credentials will be emailed to your personal email address in two separate emails from ServiceDesk@trexsolutionsllc.com on the Friday before your start date. If it is past that date and you have not yet received the credentials, please email ServiceDesk@trexsolutionsllc.com to create a ticket.
Initial Sign-In
Please use an alternate computer to sign into and set up your T-Rex account for the first time by visiting the T-Rex email link in the previous step. Once you have set your own password, you will then be prompted to configure Self-Service Password Reset and sign up for Multi-Factor Authentication before reaching your inbox. Then use your T-Rex email address, your newly set password, and your MFA method to sign into the T-Rex laptop for the first time. Below are links to detailed instructions from Microsoft Support for setting up both Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR).
SSPR: Register the password reset verification method for a work or school account
MFA: Set up your Microsoft 365 sign-in for multi-factor authentication
Recommended Practices
- If connecting an external monitor directly to the laptop, it is best to use an HDMI cable.
- At the end of each day, the best practice is to shut the laptop down so that it has a chance to install any necessary updates and start fresh the next day.
- Search the Start menu for OneDrive, open it, and sign in with your T-Rex account to set it up. Then save any documents or files in your OneDrive folder.
- To contact IT Support, please email ServiceDesk@trexsolutionsllc.com to create a service ticket.
Troubleshooting
a) If you receive the error "There was an issue looking up your account. Tap Next to try again." when first attempting to sign into a newly received laptop:
1. Hold the power button until you see a message asking you to swipe down
2. Use the mouse to swipe down as directed and wait for the laptop to shut down completely.
3. After a few seconds, power the laptop back on.
4. Connect to your home internet connection when prompted and click Yes when asked if you would like to make the device discoverable.
5. Enter your T-Rex email address when prompted and continue through the setup process.
b) If you reach a black screen with only the mouse visible, or get frozen on the account setup screen, or you receive a message such as account setup failed, or any other sort of frozen screen:
- Plug the power cable into a working outlet and plug it into the laptop.
- Make sure nothing else is connected to the laptop other than the power cable (no usb devices, external monitor cables, docking stations, ethernet cables, etc.).
- Hold the power button until the laptop and all activity lights turn off.
- Wait a few seconds and press the power button. The laptop should then boot normally.
Note: if these steps do not resolve the issue, please email ServiceDesk@trexsolutionsllc.com for further assistance.
c) If you reach a Bitlocker Recovery screen:
- Make sure nothing is connected to the laptop (no power cable, usb devices, external monitor cables, docking stations, ethernet cables, etc.).
- Hold the power button until the laptop and all activity lights turn off.
- Wait a few seconds and press the power button. The laptop should then boot normally.
Note: if these steps do not resolve the issue, please email ServiceDesk@trexsolutionsllc.com for further assistance and include the Trex### laptop name and the last six characters of the Recovery key ID.
